2.1 Qualification a) Any person shall be eligible for membership if that person: i) subscribes to these by-laws 2.2 Classes of Membership a) There shall be four classes of membership: active, associate, organizational, and honorary b) Active, associate, and honorary membership shall be limited to individuals 2.3 Active members a) Active membership shall be open to any individual nineteen years of age or older. b) Active members shall have all the privileges of the Society, including attendance at meetings, voting, holding office, and serving on committees. 2.4 Associate members a) Associate membership shall be open to: i) spouses or immediate family members who are at least nineteen years of age or older of active members; or b) Associate members shall have all the privileges of the Society except voting and holding office 2.5 Organizational members a) Organizational membership shall be open to any profit or nonprofit organization. b) Organizational members shall be entitled to designate in writing to the secretary or treasurer any one individual, including an individual already a member, to represent the organization in the affairs of the Society and to change that designation at will. c) Organizational members shall have all the privileges of the Society except holding office. 2.6 Honorary membership a) Honorary membership shall be open to any individual b) Honorary members shall have the title conferred upon them for rendering distinguished service to the Society. c) Non-dues paying honorary members shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Society except voting and holding office. d) Honorary members may become active members of the Society in addition to their honorary membership if they meet the requirements for active membership. 2.7 Term of membership a) Active, associate, and organizational membership shall be granted by: i) action of the Board of Directors; and ii) payment of the membership dues. b) Active, associate, and organizational membership is effective on the date of the Board of Director action. c) The Board of Directors may delegate its power to act on membership applications. d) Honorary membership may be conferred by the Board of Directors, upon recommendation of the membership committee e) Each member shall uphold the Constitution and comply with the By-laws. f) Each member are in good standing except a member who has failed to pay his current annual membership dues, if any, or other subscription or debt due and owing by him to the Society 2.8 Termination of Membership 2.8.1 Resignation a) A member may resign; i. by filing a written resignation with the secretary or treasurer, or ii. by mailing or delivering it to the address of the Society. b) The resignation is effective upon receipt by the secretary or treasurer. c) A member shall remain liable for payment of any assessment or other sum levied or which became payable by him to the Society prior to acceptance of his resignation. 2.8.2 Automatic revocation a) Active, associate, and organizational membership shall be automatically revoked for nonpayment of membership dues, any subscription, or indebtedness due to the Society. b) Such revocation shall be effective by a reasonable time as prescribed by the Board of Directors. c) The Society shall notify all members who have not paid their dues that their membership is subject to revocation. Failure to give notice under this section shall not prevent automatic revocation of membership. d) A person whose membership has been revoked pursuant to this section may be reinstated by payment of current outstanding dues or other amounts owing, provided that the lapse is of a reasonable time prescribed by the Board of Directors. Such reinstatement shall be effective on the date payment is received by the treasurer. e) Active, associate, and organizational membership shall cease to be a member upon his death or in the case of an organization's dissolution. f) This section does not apply to honorary members. 2.8.3 Revocation for cause a) The Board of Directors shall have the power, by a vote of three-fourths of those Directors present, to expel or suspend any member whose conduct shall have been determined by the Board to be improper, unbecoming, or likely to endanger the interest or reputation of the Society or who willfully commits a breach of any of the By-laws of the Society. b) No member shall be expelled or suspended without being notified of the charge or complaint against him or without having first been given an opportunity to be heard by the Board of Directors at a meeting called for that purpose. 2.8.4 Any member who resigns, withdraws or is expelled from the Society shall forthwith forfeit all right, claim, and interest arising from association with membership in the Society. Membership fees are not refundable in the event of resignation or revocation of membership. |
